Marawi's Road to Recovery
When a militant group linked to the Islamic State took over the city of Marawi on Mindanao Island in the southern Philippines in 2017, the five-month long urban battle was considered the worst to take place in the country since WWII. Five years on, Marawi continues to struggle on its long road to recovery. Much of the city remains uninhabitable and thousands of civilians are still unable to return and restart their lives. This film revisits Marawi's darkest days and examines how its future could also be in jeopardy if the peoples’ calls for help are ignored.
