St.Louis: Serving Our Streets
For years St.Louis has been considered America's most violent and segregated city. Weak gun laws, systematic inequality and poor urban planning have long been blamed for its record homicide rates which are considered 420% higher than the national average. More than 2/3rds of these murders happen in the city’s North Side, a historically African-American neighbourhood which remains cut off from the rest of the city. However an unlikely partnership has formed to tackle the city’s community violence. A former police detective has teamed up with an ex-gang leader to create a grassroots gun violence reduction program.
